A Foraged Centerpiece

There’s something to these changing seasons. The remarkable beauty in it all, even the dry and crunchy. Just being outside was inspiration to try capture it, to forage the backyard and neighborhood fields for the shades of this season.  Sometimes the very best centerpieces are homemade wonders that are entirely free. Make sure you scroll to the bottom to see all the centerpiece ideas on this Thanksgiving centerpiece blog hop and all the lovely pictures by Sarah Anne Risk.

I ended up scouring my mom and dad’s house and found the perfect copper vase. I’d seen this on top of my mom’s kitchen cabinet for so long that it almost became a fixture you gloss over. Do you have anything like that in your home where you’ve just looked at it in one place for so long it is almost as if you don’t see it anymore? I encourage you to pause and look around. Sometimes the best treasures for these foraged centerpieces are hiding in plain sight.

This copper vase was dusty. So I’m glad I got it down and gave it some love. But it looked beautiful with all the reds and browns of this arrangement. Aubrey was a trooper as I strapped her in her stroller and we foraged the neighborhood.

I love how it came together. Lay out all your foraged treasures, leaves, branches, dried grass, heck even weeds look good. Start with some larger branches of leaves, I used three and offset them in the vase so the stems crossed. This gives you space to stick the smaller, more delicate flowers and dried grass into. Find a variety of textures and colors, it all grouped together looks beautiful.

Add some pumpkins, a pretty place setting and you’ve got a memorable Thanksgiving table to share with those you love. You can see more pictures of the finished Thankgiving table here. Make sure to head on over to my friend’s centerpieces too and stop by and say hi to Sarah Anne Risk, her instagram is beautiful as she whisks you away to wine country.
