It’s an informal table in our breakfast nook but I don’t mind one bit packing it with pretty. Everyone needs a pretty place to rest their eyes during the doldrums of winter. A place my hubby and I can sneak in a sweet breakfast alone (read: shovel bowls of cereal in our face / guzzle a latte if we’re lucky) before two bubbly boys bounce down the stairs or a baby crashes our party. Let’s be real, this year, there’s not much romance with a newborn but that doesn’t mean it can’t at least be pretty. Haha!
I know that sometimes Valentine’s Day can feel like a commercial holiday or school holiday. But falling right between the chaos of Christmas and the hope of spring, it can be a nice pick-me-up. Especially when you add a dose of lovely flowers. And when you get right down to the nuts and bolts, speaking words of affirmation to loved ones is a beautiful thing that should be celebrated. And it doesn’t have to be cheesy. I tucked a word of affirmation into an air plant to give each setting some meaning and loveliness, perfect for the season, whether it’s a gathering for sweet friends or a spouse.
And this Valentine’s Day I’m joining forces with some sweet blogging buddies to create even more inspiration for you all! Tables for two (and then some) highlighting this beautiful season of loooove. Make sure to pop over to each blog listed at the bottom of this post to see the lovely in store for you.
When I got to work planning this sweet gathering spot in the heart of our home, I started by pulling out my beautiful white heart plates. I invested in these beauties a few years ago from The White Company and they remain one of my favorite purchases. They’re heavy duty stoneware just so up my alley, white and crisp–a go with anything purchase. We use them around this time of year with dinners and it’s a fun way to jazz up the winter blues around these frozen New England parts.
Combine those pretty plates with a rose gold charger, some natural elements like the placemats and wood candlestick holders that add a perfect blend of earthiness with a good floral table cloth and you’ve got an easy way to add some lovely to a table.
I think the colors on this table have to be my absolute favorite. That perfect blush rose that’s part whisper pink with a peachy coral lean just about makes my heart flutter. And I picked up all these flowers up at my local Whole Foods. Grab a good rose, some whispery soft flutterly filler flowers and some greens and get to work loosely arranging away.
My sweet friend Madison from Madison Rae Photography captured these beautiful pictures and even wrote out the words of affirmation on the place settings. She does calligraphy so if you’re in need of a great photographer / calligrapher, she’s your gal.
