It’s the most magical time of year and our home is getting all cozied up slowly but surely. Today I’m joining my sweet friends to show you glimpses of our holiday homes. Captured by my friend, Ruth Eileen Photography, this year I just wanted it to feel uncluttered and soft. We’ve had a not-so-great last few months and I miss my mom. Christmas was her absolute favorite time of year and I wanted my home to feel like a soft place to land. As a result, I stayed away from bright colors and just focused on warmth and texture. Consequently, I can say this is probably my favorite Christmas yet in our old house but you know, I say that every year.
The Family Room
The Family room has an amazing 9 ft artificial Christmas tree from Balsam Hill, you can see close-ups here on this post. It’s definitely a “wow” tree and looks like your traditional Christmas tree yet with wide-enough spaced branches to really highlight some special ornaments.
My absolute favorite thing about our tree is that gorgeous white paper garland and picks. They don’t scream Christmas and would make beautiful party decorations throughout the year, which is why I invested in them. They’re just that lovely. They’re big and the blooms are substantial, not flimsy, so really you could get away with two garlands and probably 3-4 picks, even for a big tree.
The mantel looks pretty with just a simple faux garland and a beautiful handmade wreath by my friend Michelle at Fiori Florals, an adorable home decor and floral shop in Franklin, Ma. If you’re local and haven’t yet made it out there you definitely need to plan a trip. I love that this is a unique wreath, it doesn’t scream Christmas but has a delicate, soft feel.
And now there’s an adorable 5th stocking hanging up in honor of sweet Aubrey’s first Christmas. I love these gold letters from Anthropologie. I have a few different sets of letters to designate whose stocking is who but couldn’t resist the soft floral elements to these.
The side console with our travel photos still needs some love, I’m planning a more substantial garland on the front and a few other tweaks, I’ll keep you updated on how this area turns out. But this Serena & Lily sidebar has been a great addition. It’s so lovely I even used it without a table cloth for the dessert table at Kai’s vintage race car party which I’ll have up soon on the blog.
The Kitchen
The kitchen got some wreaths, garland and new shelf decor. Simple touches that make it feel a whole lot like the most magical time of year.
This sweet area of our kitchen is the boys’ main art zone, the two big drawers under the built-in seat hold all their art supplies, so this is a well used (and loved!) area. I’m still working on getting it set up and will probably have our driftwood nativity set here. In the meantime, I switched around the pillows to add some soft blue and accented it with the grey/blue vase.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these Christmas peeks around our home. You’ll want to stop by my friend’s posts to get your fill of Christmas bliss.
