Fall Acorn Wreath

This simple and lovely fall acorn wreath celebrates the season while being almost entirely free. Particularly if you live in a place where acorns are abundant. I did buy some new ribbon but could have easily used what I had on hand making it a budget-friendly option for fall decor. A wreath that looks adorable layered in bookshelves. Acorns aren’t the only thing you can use, last year I made this Beechnut Husk Wreath.

When we were living in our old house, all those years ago before babies, I walked the dog around the neighborhood collecting big, beautiful acorns. A novelty at the time having just come from the high desert in Southern California. I came home and created an acorn wreath masterpiece. A few days later, I walked in from work to a horrific site. My acorn wreath had “hatched” for lack of a better word. There was a giant pile of worms crawling around the window sill. Hundreds of worms. It would take years before I found it in my heart to bring another acorn into my home. Now I bake them before using.

SUPPLIES

2 metal hangers (the kind that come with dry cleaning)

Wire Cutters

~35-45 Acorns (some split while baking so have more on hand, aim for all of a similar size)

Hot Glue + Hot Glue Gun

Pretty Ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS

Start by baking your acorns on low, 150 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Let cool completely. Some acorns may split while baking but it is WAY better than having worms everywhere.

Take two wire hangers, mine come with my dry cleaning and are super bendable. I cut the hook off and twisted them around each other into roughly 12″ circle. You could also use bendable wire you may have on hand.

Hot glue your acorns starting on one side and working your way all the way around in the same direction. Because the frame is thin you need to hold the acorns more steady until they cool.

Once the you have them all on the wreath frame, flip the frame upside down so you can add more hot glue to the back.

Tie the ribbon around in a loose knot and either hang in an inside window or layer in some bookshelves. I hope you enjoy this easy and festive fall acorn wreath. The best fall decor can be found outside. Make sure to check out all my friend’s fall wreaths below!
