“Before” and “After” posts rank high up there on some of my favorite blog posts to write, so I’m beyond excited to be able to share our finished garage organization with you. You’ve likely seen peeks of the progress and changes on Instagram but today I’m sharing it all. From the embarrassing “befores” to the lovely “afters;” the details, cabinet colors and epoxy floors. BEFORE (how did we live with this…)

“We need professional help!” Pretty much sums up my conversation with hubby after finishing off our garage at the end of last year. It was not our initial intention to tackle a major garage organization project but boy is this ever a silver lining to a pretty frustration permitting issue with our town and previous contractor.

THE BEFORE

Now granted this is post-Christmas chaos but you can see very clearly how we had NO storage whatsoever once it was finished. Everything lined the walls. High on our wish list was storage for Matt’s tools, as this is his main workspace for all the DIYs he tackles on account of yours truly. We needed wood storage, bike/stroller storage and a place to store all the friggin’ ceramic pots I keep buying that can’t live outside all winter because we live in the arctic. Maybe there is a support group that will take me in.

We could only really fit one car in our two car garage with all the stuff lining the edge. Mine won out because I need to plug it in.

THANK GOODNESS THERE’S AN AFTER

We have beautiful floors now, specifically the epoxy floor in Driftwood color, 1/8″ flake. Everything washes right off with the hose and looks beautiful. We tried years ago to DIY it by painting our floors with garage floor paint. It failed. The team at Revel Garage Solutions sanded the floors and prepped the surface to get it ready for the epoxy process. This stuff is messy and quite intensive. This is a project I’d happily outsource and one easy way to make a big impact with your garage.

ALL THE DETAILS

Now we couldn’t drive on the epoxy floors or walk on them for a few days while they cured but the cabinets weren’t quite ready to be installed so we didn’t mind. For the cabinetry we selected the traditional Reverse Bead door profile in the color “Folkstone” with black edgebands and Anodized Aluminum hardware in black. The slatwall is white PVC. I wanted it to blend into the white walls. And it looks beautiful.

The cabinet on wheels is my potting station. I can move it around the yard if I need to and it has ample space for potting soil and fertilizers and all the gardening goodness. I love the easy access to my garden tools hanging on the slatwall behind it.

BIKE STORAGE

The motorized bike hoist is everyone’s favorite. Watch my Instagram Reel here to see it in action! It has a control panel on our wall with a key ignition so we can hide it from the kids. I’m happy to report no child has taken a ride on it yet, the adults are pondering it. It holds all our bikes, my basket wagon (not shown here because it was in the yard) and the stroller. We also have vertical mounting feature for two bikes on the slatwall which is easier for the kids to utilize. The cabinet behind the refrigerator holds all our winter snow boots and rain boots. What a lifesaver to get those out of our mudroom.
