Back to School Bookshelves + Book Suggestions

I know many of you friends have already started the school year journey with your kids. We’ve got three more weeks thank God! This summer has rocked me but good. I expected slow, steady, easy days and we’ve been catapulted through a very busy summer. We took on too much, said yes too many times and have been stuck in an endless construction zone. So as I start to orient towards the coming school year, naturally it helps my heart to start in a creative spot. Hence, back to school bookshelves, some favorite book suggestions and the cutest crayon garland you ever did see. Creative touches for my littles to start the school year off right.

FRAMED ABC ART

I printed off this PDF file I downloaded from Etsy for the framed ABC art. Cute, bright and whimsical, it was an easy home printer and card stock project.  I believe the frame is from Target.

EMBROIDERY ART

I cherish this embroidery piece on the kid’s shelves. It is from Etsy and reads: “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying I will try again.” A message I want to breath into my little ones as they battle their way through life. You can shop some of my favorite embroidery art pieces at the end of this post.

A CRAYON GARLAND

A length of ribbon, some hot glue and a handful of crayons in rainbow order make a beautiful garland on our bookshelves. This didn’t take me very long and I raided the kid’s art drawer. I made sure to line them up with the top black band on the crayon wrapper so they hung and wouldn’t twist or flip over. This garland was heavier than most I make so I used two gold thumb tacks on either side of the shelf to hold it in place.

Whether you are heading to the library to check out some favorites, picking up a few new books to start the year or looking for a good gift book, these are all great. Probably my favorite is Beautiful Oops. It’s such a clever, thoughtful book that has resonated so well with my kids over the years. It’s a must-have in any library in my opinion. Not particularly a “back to school” theme but really applicable as kids seem to do more projects during the school year.  Enjoy! I hope these back to school bookshelves and book suggestions inspire.
