A homemade turkey garland. Check. Adorable Thanksgiving-inspired books. Check. The playroom bookshelves got a cute update today. Now to be completely honest, I should have been creating a piñata for Kai’s Zelda birthday party on Saturday. What I did instead was create turkeys out of leaves and pinecones, walk them across the counter for an Instagram Reel and write this blog post. We can all question my use of kid-free time on Saturday when I’m dragging kids tables and chairs across the back deck. In the meantime, some Thanksgiving Bookshelves for the Playroom.
I neglected to take a single picture of the creation of these cuties but they’re pretty self-explanatory. Three maple leaves hot glued onto the back of a tiny pine cone. Acorn top hot glued to said pinecone. A bit of bittersweet berry husk for the gobbler part (what’s that thing called anyways?!) and some tiny dots of paint for the eyes. I glued them to a ribbon, strung them from the shelves and took all the Halloween books away. Voila. Successful procrastination on the party prep front.
To be fair, not all of these are traditional Thanksgiving-themed. Instead they represent the color and feel of the season. I need to get a few actual Thanksgiving books, I’d welcome suggestions. Of all of these, year-after-year we adore the Fletcher books. It’s beautifully illustrated and a gem of a book. The Leaf Thief is hilarious and a must-have in my opinion.
| The Leaf Thief | Thanksgiving in the Woods | Sweep | The Crayons Give Thanks | Leaves | Fletcher and the Falling Leaves | Evergreen | Leif and the Fall | Ox-Cart Man | In the Middle of Fall | Apple Cake | Lawrence in the Fall | Wherever You Go |
As we get ready to celebrate Thankfulness on this coming Thanksgiving here in the States I wish you all just that. Some crafty time and enough space to be able to reflect on the lovely things. I hope you’ve enjoyed this little fall update–Thanksgiving Bookshelves in the Playroom.
