Oh my gosh don’t you love Christmas time? I know it’s not quite Thanksgiving but all the good stuff is selling out quick and I want you guys to be prepared for all the sales coming up soon. McGee & Co already has a 20% off site wide and I got a few great pieces there this year.
I love a neutral Christmas palette because it makes for great layering and allows you to build a collection you really love and can easily transition each year. I’ve added to my neutral collection with some great, inexpensive finds. And the good news, if you’re a color lover for the holidays, some of these are great foundation pieces. Neutral is beautiful when layered with different textures and shimmer, nothing about it is bland or boring!
Last year I only bought one real garland. And clearly didn’t think it through because I put it over our bed. So once Christmas was over it was crispy beyond belief and dropped every needle on its way out of our house. Not fun picking those needles out of your bed. The cedar and pine garlands are so realistic now that I’m a huge proponent for investing in some quality garlands. I’ve gotten mine from Terrain and I pick up a few each year.
I bought our faux Christmas tree in September and it was backordered until the end of October. But they sell out every year. I tried waiting until after Christmas last year to snag a discount but quickly discovered this is one of those things that if you love it, you buy it and put it away for a few months. I was able to get it for 20% off and felt like that gave me the green light this year to invest in a nice tree. And by “nice” I really mean middle of the road. We have 9.5 ft ceilings and needed a 9 ft tree, they aren’t cheap so prepare yourself if you need a big one. The ones from Balsam Hill that are just beautiful are well over $1000. The 9 ft tree I gravitated to the most at Target was $500. I got this one, a Prelit Noble Fir from Terrain, which is unfortunately sold out. The unlit version in a smaller size is still available and it’s a beauty.
If you’ve pondered a faux tree for awhile but can’t quite get over not having a real tree, I get it. I was a hold out for years and then when I started blogging more consistently and realized my options were 1) Drive to the forest and cut one down (maybe illegally?) or 2) Buy a faux one, I relented. We still do the “pick a tree out” with the littles for their playroom in December and now we have a perfect spot in our master bedroom to put another real one.
I’m so enjoying holiday decorating this year and hope you’ve been inspired by some of our finds. This year we’re not in the middle of a construction zone and that just makes it sweeter.
