When “nesting” and the New Year collide we had ourselves an organizing bonanza. Haha! Seems like it’s attacked everyone too in a big way since the release of Marie Kondo’s Netflix show. In all seriousness before Aubrey came, I was up to my eyeballs in valiant attempts to cross things off my “before baby comes” list with the expectation we would once again have an “apocalypse baby”–that kind of horrible newborn that cries incessantly and won’t allow attempts at being put down, buckled in a carseat, changed or fed. Sooo for a few weeks there it was full on preparation mode.
If you’re like me there are just corners of the house that accumulate. That were never thoroughly thought about and therefore lacked a planned purpose and organization scheme that allowed them to stay neat. I’ve read that popular organizing book from a few years ago, got all motivated to purge, declutter and organize to find joy but that went out the window when Kai turned out to be an apocalypse baby. So my corners of our home needing some love were the hall closets, laundry room cupboards, mudroom and the entire new babies’ room which has unfortunately become a catch all space for random junk since it stopped being our “master bedroom” this last summer.
I’ve been sharing glimpses of this journey on Instagram and have gotten a ton of messages asking where certain items are from. Voila! A whole post with most of the bins, baskets, clear drawer organizers and even the bamboo ones from our kitchen drawers I haven’t shared quite yet.
I reached out to my friend Leah from Little Lief Creative, a darling Etsy shop with unique signs and beautiful quality printables to see if she could make me labels for these spaces I’ve been working so hard on. Never underestimate the power of a beautiful label. She made me some darling ones and I highly recommend reaching out and having her make you some custom ones for your projects. Especially in places where the baskets are on display, like the upper cabinets in our mudroom, it just makes them look so nice, pulled together and far more usable!
We used these bin clip label holders in black from the Container Store to hold the custom labels. I sent exact dimensions to Leah and she made the labels the right size and super easy to cut out when I printed them off my home printer.
We’ve still got a few more corners to tackle and Leah’s labels will certainly come in handy. I’ll show you more glimpses as we go. What’s your favorite organizing tip or product?
