Get the Look: Woven Textures

Cane, wicker, rattan…there’s just so much to love about the woven textures these days and they’re definitely a hot commodity. They add such a warmth to rooms and are my go-to element to ground spaces I design. Add a fresh and calm feel. I love woven roman shades on windows, baskets in the corner with a plant and layered jute rugs, a woven tray on a coffee table. You’ll see these elements in many of my rooms since it’s such a great way to soften a space.

Designers all over are incorporating these lovely woven textures into their designs. This pretty space by Bria Hammel Interiors shows how the subtle use of baskets can really warm up the room. And that hanging swing below by Timber Trails Development Company…be still my heart.

Several of these pieces below I actually have and LOVE. Several of them I’m eyeballing myself. We’ve got the basket pendant from Serena and Lily in our stairway and the white and cane side bar in Aubrey’s nursery. The seagrass basket with handles we have in our downstairs built-ins and the taller ones are in Aubrey’s closet. And friends, it doesn’t take an arm and a leg to get the look, many of these favorites are reasonably priced and just hop into your cart while perusing Target.

When I was pregnant with Aubrey, I looked high and low for one of those adorable rattan bassinets I was seeing all over Instagram but found none that weren’t outrageously expensive. You see most of them are handmade in Indonesia and imported to the US. I reached out to several stores in Australia and New Zealand but the least expensive quote I got was around $600 USD, shipping was several hundred dollars alone. I spent $300 on her crib and that turns into a toddler bed so it just felt a little outrageous to spend double that on something I’d get such limited use out of, but oh how I wanted one. Low and behold Crate and Barrel Kids now has this darling one pictured above. It’s brand new, go figure. 5 months late. RUN and snag it. It’s SO cute with those black iron legs. I consoled myself by getting sweet Aubrey that darling wicker doll stroller which she can grow into not out of. You win some you lose some.
