Where do I even start!? Sweet baby girl Aubrey is 6 months old, actually closer to 7 as I write this. And at the same time it makes me tear up at how fast this is all going, I’m also loving every new stage of her sweet first year. If you remember all the way back, we didn’t find out the gender. You can read all about that here but needless to say, it took awhile with a newborn, two wily brothers and getting my head around having a girl to get her nursery together. You’ve already seen her lovely closet but let’s take a peek at the rest with these beautiful pictures by Ruth Eileen Photography.
I was probably 8 months pregnant when I started working more seriously on some design boards for this space. Mostly boy ones because I was convinced it was a boy. This room use to be our master bedroom prior to the addition/remodel and actually got 3 feet narrower to create an upstairs laundry room and master closet. It was the only remaining room on our second floor that had the original windows so it needed some work before baby girl came! We had Jade Star Builders change out the windows for new ones, create the window nook and add shiplap. They did a wonderful job bringing my doodlings to life. I love the shiplap panels with the ledge (perfect for books) and corbels. Such a cute and unique detail!
Finding girl wallpaper was a to-do. I had fallen in love with an Indian block print wallpaper at Anthropologie only for it to be discontinued. I wanted something similar so the hunt began. I had loved Jolie Marche’s work for awhile so I reached out to her to see if she would turn her beautiful block print floral into wallpaper. It’s absolutely charming for a little girl’s room. The pretty ivory knit and blue stripe pillows in the nook are also from Jolie Marche.
Once I had the wallpaper nailed down, I sourced a vintage Turkish rug in a pretty blue and pink. I know that bums some of you out since it’s one of a kind but I’ll do my best to source some other pretty ones below in the Shop This Post. I layered it on top of the prettiest patterned jute rug. This rug is reasonably priced so snag it up as it really is the perfect layering rug.
Designing the changing table was a fun challenge because I wanted to use a sideboard rather than a dresser. She’s got a large closet that we built a dresser into so I knew down the road she wouldn’t need it and then I could stealthfully move this pretty sideboard downstairs into my family room or entry. I filled the inside with large baskets that hold all the baby essentials. Instead of a big, bulky changing pad, I opted for turning a large rectangular tray into a changing pad by adding foam and a Gathre mat. Truth be told, during the day I use our floor basket in the family room more than her room.
The art was custom made by Jess Blazejewski. I wanted a lovely floral piece of art so make sure stop by and say hi to Jess. The mirror was an inexpensive Wayfair find and that lamp–pure gorgeousness right there. Here’s a similar one for a fraction of the cost.
I love her sweet crib! With its a modern, streamlined look it pairs beautifully with some wall baskets. I got the two larger ones at Potterybarn, now sold out unfortunately, but when they came they were a lot greyer than I was wanting. I bought a mild paint stripper from Home Depot and took the stain off. The small one is a placemat from Anthropologie, sold out now but here’s a similar one. Don’t be afraid to use items that aren’t technically for a wall and if they’re the wrong color, spray paint them or strip the stain off. Sometimes it’s worth a little elbow grease. The gorgeous quilt was handmade by my mother-in-law. She’s got a gift, it’s an heirloom already! Aubrey’s first outing was to the fabric store at one week old.
I love the simple and lovely wood sign on her door. I need to get one for Cade and Kai too. It’s a cute way to acknowledge their spaces. You can get one too from The Handmade Sign Company. She takes custom orders so let your imaginations fly.
The window nook is probably my favorite part of the whole room. It’s huge! Over 9 ft wide by 4+ feet deep with three big drawers. I had a custom cushion made in a white twill. The ruffled baby blanket is vintage Potterybarn Kids from when Kai was my baby. The woven wood shades are by The Shade Store in Seaview-7. They are motorized given the depth of the window seat and have black lining to hopefully get in better daytime naps. Every time I get to open or close or open or close or, ok I’ll stop pressing the button, those blinds make me smile.
And the pillows! Can we talk a moment about those pillows! So so good. You can get several of them on Jolie Marche’s site. The blue linen ones are by Anne Selke. And I’m fairly confident this beautiful pink doll should be in every little girl’s room. It’s so darn cute and dainty and reasonably priced. If you know someone having a girl, snag it up!
