I’ve got a sweet 7 year old on my hands and it’s breaking my freakin’ heart! Every momma out there says it. Time goes too fast. Boy am I feeling it. Seven just feels old to me. A full fledge kid rather than a kid on the coattails of the little years. Party days are special days in our home. And this was no exception, he wanted a dragon party theme after loving the “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy we watched earlier this year. Rather than sticking with the movie characters we incorporated them into his party in subtle and sweet ways captured beautifully by Madison Rae Photography. Make sure to take at peek at last year’s animal party and his fifth airplane birthday!

THE DESSERT TABLE

This is Cade’s “golden birthday,” 7 years old on March 7th, so little bits of gold made its way into every square inch of this party. The backdrop is a shiplap board Matt made for Aubrey’s bunny birthday. I hot glued on the large wooden dragon shape (it’s 22″ with no hole). From the cute dragon cake topper on the Soul Cake to the beautiful cookies made by Honey and Lou Baking Co, the touches of gold sparkle and I love it. Just like his sweet soul. I had these white chocolate and milk chocolate dragon pops made by a shop on Etsy and stuck them in the same board Matt made me all those years ago, I think for his first birthday party. I picked up some cupcakes at Whole Foods and tucked them into these adorable dragon cupcake wrappers made in gold.

Now probably my favorite part was reusing some of the honeycombs I got for Kai’s “Raise the Woof” party back in November. These special colors were annoyingly expensive so I’m happy to use them for more than one party. I did buy two dark green ones to add in to the cute swag in the corner. I unwrapped a portion of this grapevine garland and curled it around the corner then strung the honeycomb balls on a string and hung them over the same corner, tucking faux ferns and greens in to create the cute grouping.

THE KID’S TABLE

We had some sweet friends come over for this small shindig so we set up a little table for the kid’s to eat at. This is the same table set we’ve used multiple times since Kai’s second Brown Bear birthday and it’s been a great investment. Cade is 7 and all the friends still sat comfortably at it. I used this fabric in green for a table runner, these pretty gold plates topped with this plate and then used wooden utensils that I added a dragon detail to for added cuteness. The navy napkins had a rim of gold which added a nice pop. The name cards were made with the Cricut Joy machine.

MANTEL DECORATIONS

When we have to have a party inside given the time of year in New England, I like to decorate the mantel and parts of the kitchen. A cute DIY dragon garland and wooden Toothless toy by TraceyToys (looks like it’s sold out but I think she could probably make more) add some cuteness to the space. I got these 3D black dragons that we stuck on the mirror. For $6.99 they are a steal for how much cuteness they add. I made the garland out of card stock from the craft store and wooden dragon laser cutouts I got on Etsy. They’re all 4″ and I ordered a couple different dragon varieties here and here without holes.

DRAGONS DO LOVE TACOS

We loooove to get Chipotle catering mainly because it’s delicious and we get to eat all the leftovers. It makes things so much easier on party day to just put out a delivery of goodness on the counter. They have great options and the kid’s love it. And apparently Dragons Love Tacos. Just sayin’.

DRAGON CRAFT

I love having a craft for the kids to do. Mainly because it keeps them occupied and creates a party favor all in one. This is a cute dragon craft. I found all the supplies at Hobby Lobby and including these stronger than regular toilet paper rolls that we had the kids paint to make the dragon head. Hot glueing the tissue around the circle creates the appearance of flames coming out of the dragon’s mouth when you blow through the other end. It was a huge hit with the kiddos.
