It’s the time of year for a fall jaunt to Vermont. When Woodstock, Vermont is only a two hour drive from home, it has easily become our favorite fall tradition. My babies have grown up going here. Take a peek at this jaunt from the baby Aubrey days or this one from the pre-Aubrey days.
We’ve come to really love this yearly stay at the Woodstock Inn. We’ve stayed in many a VRBO in town too but our favorite remains the Inn. It’s low-key, elegant and family-friendly. It’s also perfectly located for easy walks into town, to grab maple lattes or walk to Billings Farm. This year we even climbed Mount Peg before breakfast on Sunday. The trailhead is 0.2 miles from the hotel. It was lovely. And don’t get me started on the spa. One of my favorites the world over. Linger here and relax into a fall dream.
This is just one of those quaint American towns that wears charm like a beloved sweater and exudes a quiet confident loveliness that keeps you coming back. How many times have I been here now and I still take pictures of the same things! Wander town with a Maple Latte in hand. Or if you’d prefer, a Maple Creemee from Woodstock Scoops. This is a uniquely Vermont thing, the Maple Creemee so don’t miss it and for the love, don’t forget the maple sugar sprinkles. I bought 3 containers to bring home because I use them on muffins and my Banana Cake you need to make!
Walk here because we all need more steps in our day and it really is a short walk thru town, over the river and up to the farm. In fall the farm puts on all kinds of sweet experiences, from hay rides to barn dances. There’s something for everyone. We love the baby cows, saying hi to the sheep, the sunflower maze and meandering the garden.
One of our favorite restaurants, you do need reservations over the busy fall weekends which I booked about three weeks in advance. We had a later lunch here and enjoyed every minute. Highly recommend the sangria.
We stock up on cheese and maple syrup here every year. You can sample the cheese and various grades of maple syrup which is a fun experience for everyone. If you’re curious, we buy the very darkest because we all like a strong maple flavor and it makes a delicious glaze for our beloved maple scones recipe.
We have never climbed Mt Peg before which is frankly shocking given how lovely the trail is, how pretty the view from the top and how close the trail is to the hotel. Matt and I were still on England time and the kids are troopers and agreed to hike before breakfast and my spa time.
We hiked down, had breakfast at the hotel and I headed to the spa while Matt took the kids to the indoor pool. We picked up sandwiches and cookies at the Woodstock Farmers Market and then headed to VINS in Quechee for another hike through the woods and their elevated canopy tour. We love VINS so much we have an annual membership.
