Kai turned 6 in November which was frankly audacious since we told him he wasn’t allowed to turn a year older. But alas it happened, our football-loving little boy got his wish for a football party. I think like most people, our kiddo’s interests inspire the party theme. Clearly not always since I’m a few weeks away from throwing Aubrey a snowflake party. Last year Kai was interested in all things puppy, the year before that, a modern race car party and probably my most viewed party of all time–his rocket ship party. I see it recreated all over Pinterest. It is a joy to be able to be creative, celebrate my kiddos and give you ideas. And I’m pretty sure I scored a touchdown in his book!
I haven’t done a balloon garland in awhile. I ordered a petite garland in custom colors: roasted matcha, dark matcha, sage, stonewashed brown, and charcoal black from PopCoFest. One of the more asked questions I get is how to hang them. I used a nail and two command hooks. I premake the “bones” of the balloon garland inside with the plastic balloon garland tape. And then I hang it with string and add the smaller balloons in with glue dots for a layered look. This all comes in the garland kit available from PopCoFest. The garland is arching over a cool vintage print from CircaNowTreasures, another great Etsy shop for unique party decor. I had CircaNowTreasures print this for me in a 24 x 36″ size and I bought this poster hanger from Amazon.
Always a favorite and centerpiece of the celebration, what kiddo doesn’t love a sweet treats table? I found the fabric for the tablecloth at Joanns. We have a 5 ft folding table that we got years ago. It takes up little space and we use it often for parties and gatherings. Always buy enough fabric to cover it all the way to the ground, usually 3.5-6 yards depending on the fabric width.
The cookies are by the amazing Honey and Lou Baking Co. They are literally the highlight of every party as you can tell by Kai’s expression. Eileen is the sweetest and has the most amazing cookie decorating classes follow her on IG for info. The cake I picked up at WholeFoods and decorated with a vintage Cowboys player and Malibu Tops sparkler candle. Other desserts included mini chocolate tarts and chocolate covered oreo footballs.
I know you’ve seen these tables before, they’re so versatile that we use them often. They still comfortably fit our 7 year old but are easy enough for a 2 year old to enjoy them. Worth the investment if you plan on throwing parties and want to save money over the years. Solid, unfinished wood make them so easy to use, any stain can get lightly sanded out. We bought 4 of these sets and a set of extra chairs. Looks like it is out of stock but usually comes back in stock. This one is similar but more expensive. I used this Hester & Cook paper runner, green plates, football helmet plates, these football cups and football play napkins (similar here). The wooden football stir sticks were from PoppyJackShop which is taking a short break but were wonderful to work with.
Kai really wanted a bounce house this year but because he is a November birthday, most rental companies aren’t renting them anymore. I ended up buying one and because of shipping delays it didn’t arrive in time. Our church has one and we borrowed it the morning of the party. November is a tricky month in New England. It can be bone cold or seventy degrees. A total wild card. This year we lucked out and had nice weather. Perfect for mask-free classmates and all the outdoor fun.
A football party was exactly what Kai wanted for his 6th birthday and it couldn’t have been more fun. We didn’t get a good picture of the goodie bags but we had these football crayons made, these soft footballs, bubbles and stickers as well as sending the kids home with treats. Ruthie from Ruth Eileen Photography took some lovely pictures and I’m so thankful for these memory-making moments. Especially during year two a global pandemic.
