Last January we celebrated our sweet three year old with a snowflake party. By the time I got around to putting a post together it was already spring and a snowflake party just didn’t seem right. So I figured I’d share Aubrey’s festive party when winter rolled back around. And here we are again, happy first day of winter friends! Aubrey’s snowflake party was perfect for my sweet winter baby. Drift on in and take a peek!
Winter whites and soft neutrals inspired this winter fete that ironically needed to be postponed a day because of a blizzard that came through. Luckily our friends were all willing to dig themselves out in time for the party. We jokingly blamed ourselves for this storm because had it been a Hawaiian Luau theme we probably would have had a heatwave. Sorry New England, our fault.
If you’ve been to a party or two of ours you’ve seen these soft, natural wood kid’s tables and chairs. We invested in 4 sets and extra chairs for Kai’s 2nd birthday and have used them an endless number of times at this point. They are solidly built and because they are unfinished, every stain comes out with a light sanding. I can’t recommend them enough. They worked for a two year old and they still fit our eight year old. They’re magic tables! I wrapped velvet ribbon and glued on a snowflake to the backs for added snowflakey cuteness.
The sweet scallop plates are by Meri Meri and compostable. We ended up washing them and saving them for future use. They feel like melamine. I layered the small on top of the large size with this scalloped napkin, snowflake cups and found the snowflake placemats on Amazon. I love using fabric yardage for the dessert table, and for this party, cut a remnant piece to use as the kid’s table runner. Added cuteness with the addition of neutral felt snowflakes.
My kid’s favorite, having a table of sweets is right out of every kiddo’s birthday fantasy. I start designing the table with a doodle and often reuse backsplashes we already have but Matt made me new ones out of scrap wood because I wanted an arch to them. I found the branch on a walk and knew it’d be perfect for the dessert table. It adds that whimsical wintery feel.
I usually have cake or cupcakes, cookies, lollipops and occasionally some candy, in this case rock candy which looked like “icicles.” The lollipops are from Etsy, these snowflake-shaped ones and these with snowflakes inside. The beautiful cookies are from Eileen of Honey & Lou Baking Co and a party favorite. The detail is astounding.
And the cake! How beautiful is the cake from Lizzie’s Bakery. She came through at the last minute with only a few days notice. As if parties aren’t hard enough to coordinate, we’re now working around blizzards and ongoing covid-related issues. But that is life and you just keep finding the lovely through it all!
We had Tatte cater brunch foods for this little shendig and brunch ended up being a really sweet way to celebrate. Aubrey is a big fan of croissants and donuts.
We had a craft station where all the kids could make their own snow globes. It kept everyone busy on a chilly, snowy day and was a fun activity. The Etsy shop, Sleepingbcreations created the most lovely winter wands for the girls and we got these cute “Build Your Own” Snowman kits for the boys.
Thanks for coming to Aubrey’s Snowflake birthday party. It was a joy to plan and fun to reminisce on. Especially as I’m in the middle of planning her 4th birthday. How did this year go by so quick. Thank you Ruth Eileen Photography for these beautiful captures of such a pretty day!?
