Anemone Flower Cards

Coming off the holidays when you get something other than bills in the mail, I had a renewed zest for sweet letters. There’s something truly lovely about getting a card in the mail that had some thought put into it. These sweet little cards are a great way to share some love this Valentine’s Day and twice as fun to make when the little hands help. They’re imperfectly perfect and a lovely little way to say “I love you.”

With just a few supplies, these sweet little cards are not hard to make, perfect for little ones to help, especially because you can use little fingers for the Anemone’s centers. I love any opportunity I can get to incorporate kids into projects. There’s just something better about the messy little process when they’re learning along side you.

SUPPLIES

  • white crepe paper streamer
  • white & grey card stock
  • blush tissue paper
  • black acrylic paint
  • paint brush
  • letter stickers
  • hot glue
  • scissors
  • thin ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS

Fold crepe paper accordion-style several times at about an inch wide and then cut an oblong “petal” out. Because you folded the crepe paper you should have several petals out of your one cut.

I used hot glue to glue the petals down because it does not wrinkle paper and dries so quick BUT if you’re doing this with kiddos, plain old scrapbook sticky tabs or glue sticks would work. Layer the petals, 5 white petals in a circle to make the flower base and then layer on top of that, adding in some blush pink tissue paper petals for interest. Finish off the anemone “flower” by cutting a quarter size piece of white card stock–this will be the black center.

Using those teeny kiddo fingers, dip them in black paint and swirl them around the circle white paper center. Now the Anemone flower is taking shape.

Now get that fine-tipped paint brush out and give those centers some love.

When those boys weren’t looking I added some pretty black ribbon and the letters spelling heart candy-inspired words: BE MINE, SWEETIE, HUG ME. I used simple small black sticker letters that I bought at Michaels. They were easy to reapply because getting them straight the first time was not easy with toddlers running about. A cute DIY to do with kiddos or make perfect during naptime.

So thankful for the lovely Ruth Eileen Photography for capturing this fun craft time with my boys. If you need a New England Photographer she’s your gal–from home tours to weddings, she does it all and beautifully.
