Happy October! For my kiddos this means anxiously counting down the days until Halloween. Cade is going to be a pilot, Kai a football player and Aubrey, a flower. In our home Halloween is far from scary, more cute and gentle. To celebrate this season with them, I put together these adorable Boo Baskets filled with some festive fun. I placed them on the counter so they would find them the in the morning making for a cute breakfast surprise. If you don’t celebrate Halloween, you could easily make these “harvest baskets,” use a different basket and fill them with some equally sweet finds.
I ordered the standard orange plastic pumpkins off Amazon and used my acrylic paint to paint them pretty colors. This would have been a whole lot easier if I had spray painted the pumpkins and then painted the eyes black. I didn’t have on hand any spray paint in pretty colors and was eager to get a move on this project so I opted to hand paint them, which took a solid hour given the number of coats it took. I did it while we watched tv and it wasn’t that bad. I did have a matte clear coat spray that helped seal in the paint so it wouldn’t chip off as easily. If you’d like to paint them the exact colors, I used colors by Folk Art: 442 Baby Blue, 2944 Light Flesh, and 2426 Golden Glow.
11 x 8.5 in copyI created this cute pennant flag, printed it out and hot glued the flag to a stick from the yard. Add some pretty velvet ribbon and you’ve got the cutest little sign for the Boo Basket.

Fill them with some fun goodies that will make them smile and it doesn’t have to be plastic filler you just end up throwing away in two and a half days or candy that will make them go bonkers. I got the lollipops from Bonjour Fete for an upcoming Halloween party. From sweet ghost pjs to a new Halloween book, there are so many lovely, non-candy options. I particularly loved these inexpensive wooden kits at Target which then creates a fun fall craft activity for them.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these Boo Baskets, a festive Halloween idea for kids! Adorable pictures captured by Ruth Eileen Photography.
