Brown Bear Brown Bear Party

Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see? I see a two year old happy as can be. Happy birthday party Asher Kai. Our little guy turned two the middle of November and recently had his brown bear brown bear party featured on Inspired By This. Which was such an honor and truly a blessing. The whole point of this humble ‘ole blog is to inspire you all so what better place to share his sweet day but with Inspired By This? Love their beautiful website SO much.

A little bit woodsy, a teensy bit whimsical and a whole lot of charm, inspired by Eric Carls’ Brown Bear book except au naturale. I didn’t want bright colors, rather taking cues from the late fall season and focusing on natural hues. Miss Nibbit created the custom invitations, stationary and coloring pages. The adorable bears were the inspiration for the day. Now the day wasn’t without it’s snafus. For example, what momma forgets to order the birthday boy a special shirt when she remembers the rest of the family!?! Real life. Haha! Poor guy.

Because we were having this party at my parent’s house in Napa, California, I had to have most supplies ordered and shipped to their house. So I planned every detail in advance and made a to-do list for projects I could do in advance and those needing to be done the day prior. Although there were lots of DIYs–from the tablecloth (just yards of fabric) to the mini pine cone place card holders to the hanging sign above the table, they weren’t hard ones. And that makes a huge difference in time commitment. Knowing I couldn’t “do it all” I had my favorite baker make the cookies, Whole Foods in Napa makes killer “naked” cakes so I ordered one and then decorated it when I brought it home. I literally set up the dessert table with the tablecloth and all stands the night before the party so I wasn’t crazed in the morning. Being overly prepared makes parties simply go smoother.

THE KID’S TABLE

How cute is this kid’s table!? I used this birch bark table runner, layered large slices of wood for the place settings complete with an adorable Miss Nibbit’s coloring page and bundle of log colored pencils. I saved a special seat for the birthday bear by making a sweet sign. We’ve used these kid’s tables by International Concepts for years. They are unfinished, so sturdy and worth the investment. This style seems to be sold out but there’s this style which is adorable too. Add a bouquet of evergreens and some clumps of moss and it really couldn’t be any cuter.

DESSERT TABLE

The center of the dessert table is the darling cake, sitting it on an old crate gives it elevation and makes it the focus. It’s too cute to miss. I ordered the wooden trees in different styles and heights from some sweet venders on Etsy. Who doesn’t love Etsy!? I used my 3 tier stands to display “woodland berries” and “bear claws”. In front of the cake are beautiful handmade cookies from sweet Jess at Kessacakes. I made “acorn donut holes” from a picture I found on pinterest. You literally take a donut hole, dip it halfway in melted chocolate, roll it in chocolate sprinkles and stick a broken piece of pretzel, voila…an acorn. So cute. And it’s all set on a 5′ folding table covered in the most beautiful P. Kaufman Check in zinc fabric. My favorite dessert table trick is buying yardage and covering an inexpensive folding table.

The birch wood frame was an easy DIY. I ordered the birch logs online. We cut two down in size to make a rectangle. My husband screwed them together and then wrapped the ends in twine. I used fine floral wire to tie evergreen clippings from my parent’s yard. Easy and inexpensive. The number 2 is from Amazon. I linked it below too. So cute and big! 18″ of cute raw wood perfection.

BRUNCH FOODS

We set up the beverage center and brunch food buffet in the kitchen. Scrambled egg muffins, croissants and scones, mixed greens salad and vegetable platter. Sweet little bears filled with chocolate coconut milk, cute bear napkins and plates from Meri Meri added cuteness to this little gathering.

I hope you enjoyed Kai’s Brown Bear Brown Bear party! This day wouldn’t have been complete without these beautiful pictures captured by the lovely and talented Emily March Photography with film processing by Photo Vision Prints. If you need a fantastic photographer, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Emily!
