We’re getting ready to celebrate our country’s birthday and what better way than with these fourth of july fruit cups? Adorable, individual-sized goodness is the perfect party treat. They’re easy to make and so cute.
The paper pinwheels and velvet ribbon flags add a festive touch that make them perfect for a celebration. You could easily use small mason jars. I found these adorable glasses at World Market and loved the subtle detailing on them. They were the right height.
I love pinwheels! You’ve definitely seen them around here before! From Pinwheel Sugar Cookies to our Party Patio Table and years ago on our Americana 4th of July table that was featured by Style Me Pretty.
Blueberries, rinsed and pat dry
Small Watermelon, cut into thin “fries”
Strawberries, cut into slices
Truwhip (This is basically Cool Whip just a healthier version)
1 Lime, zested
1/4 C Powdered Sugar
White Cardstock
Ruler
Pencil
Hot Glue Gun
Start by defrosting your Truwhip. I pull mine out of the freezer an hour or so before I’m ready to use it and leave it on the counter. You can defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Put it into a bowl and add zest of one lime and your powdered sugar. Mix to combine. Add a large dollop to the bottom of each glass.
Cut up your fruit–strawberry into thin slices, watermelon into longer, thin “fries”. I did this by cutting 1 ” thick slices out of my watermelon, cutting the rind off and then thinly slicing them up to make the longest “fries” I could. You want them to hold their shape so don’t make them too thin. There are definitely parts of the watermelon that are harder to cut into “fries”, ie the seeded areas. You want the height sticking out of your glass but the strength to be able to dip them.
Cut your 12″ skewer down to about 7-8″ and skewer the blueberries. I liked making slightly different sizes of skewered blueberries for the aesthetic, do this by cutting slightly differing sizes of skewer prior to putting your blueberries on.
Make your paper pinwheels. This is an easy task. Using your ruler, cut a 2″ square out of cardstock. Cut the edges diagonally down to the middle of the square but not all the way through. See pictures below. I used hot glue in order to get it done quickly. Hot glue them onto a skewer.
After you’ve added your all your fruit onto the top of the whipped cream add your skewer flags (velvet ribbon tied to a skewer) and those adorable pinwheels.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this adorable Fourth of July fruit cup treats captured beautifully by my friend Ruthie of Ruth Eileen Photography–from weddings to family photoshoots don’t hesitate to reach out to her, she’s amazing.
