Glimpses of Fall Around Our Home

I know everyone is putting up their spooky stuff and mine is sure to make its way up soon. We haven’t been home over a weekend in awhile so it’s been a challenge to find time to get it done. Hint Hint little boys. Convince your daddy while I’m out of town this coming weekend. Before little bits of tasteful spook make their way in, here are some glimpses of fall around our home.

THE KITCHEN

Last year during the Christmas season we had these pinecone bundles on the back of our counter stools. I loved the idea so much that I added little bunches of strawberry corn this year. With a little ribbon it’s easy to weave it through the woven backs and hang them. A lovely fall touch that feels unique.

The little wheat wreaths are hung by a wide vintage stripe ribbon (technically drapery tape) that I’m keeping around through the holidays. It’s so pretty.

FAMILY ROOM

I love our built ins! One of my favorite designed spaces in our home because it allows for subtle changes to reflect the seasons while being practical and a focal point. Our tv is under the left cabinet so this is where we curl up and watch movies, for now anyways. We’re working on basement plans for the near future. The easy DIY acorn wreath makes a great layering element and was practically free.

The pink berries are plucked from the road side. They are European Spindle berries and they open to expose bright red seeds. Technically slightly toxic, they’re up high on the mantel. Our kiddos are old enough that they don’t eat things off the floor anymore and Roobee only eats pepperoni. But be aware if you have babies and animals. I will say we’ve had them up there for a few weeks now and nothing has actually dropped.

Highlights of the mantel include the Dunes and Duchess custom spindle mirror which I highly recommend. It’s a beautiful addition to the room. The small oil painting is a treasured find from a street artist in St Petersburg Russia we picked up on travels there many years ago. The double candle holder has a lovely patina and adds great height to a mantel. The copper bucket and vase are vintage finds.

PUMPKINS PUMPKINS PUMPKINS

The heirloom and unique varieties are my favorite. We save the bright orange standard pumpkin haul until closer to Halloween and carving time. Last year I lined one side of our dutch door (painted in Farrow & Ball Light Blue) with pumpkins and loved it. It leaves the walkway wide enough that no one trips while still being festive.
