It’s the season for changes. Changes outside and in. Here in New England the days are shorter and nights more brisk. The leaves, even in early September are starting to change. And for whatever reason, I’ve made my peace with it this year, aren’t we all ready to close the door on 2020? Changing up the family room shelves and finding new pillows for the couches was a welcome pursuit in the midst of the continued uncertainty clinging to us all this year. I’ll welcome normal and the pursuit of lovely any day. So I hope dear ones that you enjoy this hints of fall home tour–part 1 with beautiful pictures by Ruth Eileen Photography.
Most decor change in my home, like anyone, is just moving things around. You’ll see last years wreath in the windownook this year. I plan on making some matching buddies for it for that set of three windows. So little changes, deeper hues to mimic all that is happening around us on the outside.
Our entry finally got painted last week and boy is it a beauty. I’ll have that tour up as soon as it is finished. Projects during COVID take time! And you know what, it’s ok. It requires a purposeful practicing of patience and an act of remaining thankful even in messes and chaos and dirt. It didn’t stop me from adding a pretty wreath to the front door. Simple and neutral. I used a 16″ gold hoop and hot glued on natural oats from a large bundle I got at Hobby Lobby. Here’s a similar bunch here. I love the almost pale green hue. Combine those with a lovely velvet ribbon and the door is complete. I did grab a couple of my faux pumpkins and put them in the planters as place holders for the real thing, when they become available.
In our window nook, I added a pair of Gwendolyn Floral pillow cases from Jolie Marche.
I love this fresh, neutral floral. On the little blue loveseat, I used the Greta Pillow to bring in a touch of fall and on the white couch, I added an 14 x 20 inch Beatrice pillow. Jolie Marche is my first stop for lovely new pillows, I just adore her. Grab yours while they’re still available.
I’ve sang the praises of this hammered metal tray and now that it is propped up, with museum putty, up in that top shelf, I’m even more smitten. It’s deep hue is lovely.
I love styling mantels. There’s something about a hearth, so warming and comfort-giving. We have our fireplace going from now until May so this room is our cozy spot.
I love layered mantels and vintage pieces. So I pulled out some vintage treasures, like this French picture I used a few years ago in a fall tour. Mirrors, art, vases full of beautiful flowers or in this case, dried flowers all bring in the richer brown/golden hues that were already in my Pamela Mungar art. Now this Target mirror is really showing some staying power. I bought it as an interim piece until I could find “the one” but let’s be honest, is there ever actually “a one”? I love that it pulls out the tones in my baskets which hold way too many toys to be going anywhere anytime soon and the subtle arch pattern mimics my window nook chairs. So who knows, maybe it’s here to stay awhile and at $70 it’s a design steal, especially for how huge it is.
Now coffee table decor is a tricky one for me. I love all those perfectly styled tables I see. But Aubrey is 19 months old and will rearrange / hide anything that is gracing the coffee table, it’s usually empty except for flowers or a plant. We snuck a few pictures in before she found the pumpkins. Flowers and pumpkins, the perfect fall combo.
THE KITCHEN DESK
In real life this desk has a printer on it and an inevitable accumulation of papers. But in “Ruthie’s taking pictures so lets actually clean it up” land, it looks mighty pretty. I changed around some of the shelf decor, adding some coral and dried seed pods.
Thanks for swinging by for this hints of fall home tour–part 1. Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow as part 2 of the fall home tour goes live.
