It’s that glorious “throw open the windows” weather if you’re a native Californian living in New England. If you’re a native New Englander you’re complaining of the heat. Regardless it was high time for some summer updates to our bedroom with Serena and Lily. I’ve still got my eyes open for some vintage cabinets for new bedside tables and possibly some new table lamps but the bones are here.
Like all rooms in our home, updates happen slowly and gradually, when you find a treasure or fall in love with something or in my case, finally pull the trigger. When we moved into this bedroom a few years ago following our renovation, we plopped everything we had in our old room into the new room. I added some pillows, bought a new chair and showed you the reveal but changes have happened slowly because I was content with everything I had and wanted to really love what I brought in. Don’t let HGTV make you feel like you need it all at once. The beauty is in the journey and the unfolding of lovely in your story.
The previous rug has been the biggest source of frustration for us. We really liked the braided ivory wool rug. It was comfortable to walk on, added a nice texture and was inexpensive. The problem was, our bedroom door didn’t open over it because the pile height was too high. I think our door is really the problem here but perhaps you’ve run into this. Every single night we had to fold the old rug over to close our door. Boy does that get tiring fast, never mind three years later. I found one I loved years ago at Serena and Lily, the Shearwater Hand-Knotted Rug, but it took awhile to pull the trigger because it’s a lovely, hand-knotted rug with a higher price point given the fine craftsmanship. It literally takes months for craftsman to create these rugs. It’s made with 100% Sardinian wool with 0.5″ fringe. There’s nothing machine made or artificial about it. I saw it in person and it truly is spectacular with muted shades of warm grey and blue that would compliment an array of rooms and design styles. I knew that the low pile would be great for our bedroom. We went with an 8 x 10′ under our king-size bed. Even with the premium rug pad underneath, the door finally shuts! And it’s a beauty. The wait truly made this an even sweeter purchase.
Bedding maybe one of the most overlooked areas in design, which is why I love Serena & Lily so much! They’ve married beautiful design with comfort. And Blue stripes. Really, is there anything prettier for summertime? The Oyster Bay Stripe Sheet Set are even lovelier in person. They have a delicate ruffle on the edge and varying stripes in the prettiest shade of blue and grey. They’re also incredibly comfortable. Made from eco-friendly cotton sateen and free from harmful chemicals. Perfect for those warm summer days.
We use a lightweight duvet year round and changed out a solid white duvet cover for the Westport duvet in coastal blue. The embroidery work is truly stunning and complements the soft blue touches in our bedroom. The two Euro shams are Cavallo Linen in navy chambray. This pretty escape makes me feel like I am on vacation. The Border Frame Bedskirt in white finishes off the bed beautifully.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these summer updates to our bedroom with Serena & Lily. If you are in the market for unique, high-quality and exceptionally lovely goods, think Serena & Lily. Our bedroom is truly an example of higher quality, less quantity, thoughtfully purchased over time and I’m thrilled with where it’s going.
