Tabletop Trees Inspired by the Forest

We recently jaunted up to the White Mountains in NH to cut down our Christmas tree. It’s a beauty and we’re loving this tradition we started last year. I can’t wait to show you. While hiking in the forest, I was inspired by the moss, tiny saplings and the beauty of the forest floor. We all kept stopping and just analyzing the uniqueness and beauty of it. So green and fresh. I figured this was perfect for our Christmas dining room table–tabletop trees inspired by the forest.

TABLETOP TREES

Start by finding some tiny saplings or buy some tabletop trees, like these live ones from Terrain or these faux ones that come in different sizes. Mine are live and I tried to find vases that they’d stand upright in. Easier said than done but these glass hurricane vases worked the best. I ended up going back to Target to pick up two more. I spaced my saplings across the table in a line to imitate a runner.

CREATING THE “FOREST FLOOR”

I used one bag of this preserved moss but wished I had had more. Two bags would have been perfect. It’s a beautiful moss that can actually be activated with water. I kept mine dry and arranged it between the vases on the table to mimic a runner. I liked the deconstructed look of the trees, keeping them natural and rather, interspersing vintage mercury glass ornaments along the moss instead of the trees.

I added in some tiny alder cones I got off Etsy for a natural look that I love. Small pine cones and lichen-covered sticks would be perfect adds. I do have some wooden mushrooms on order but like everything in the world of consumerism, they’re delayed.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my tabletop trees inspired by the forest. Here’s some more holiday inspiration for you on this blog hop with friends.
